Well, this is the first post under a new subject for this blog – Ham Radio.
I’ve toyed with the idea of getting a ham radio licence for several years, and finally got around to going for it. I sat the practical tests and written exam today with the Bracknell Amateur Radio Club, G4BRA. There’s a bit of a process to go through before I can get a callsign to get on the air, but that will hopefully only take a few days.
The whole callsign business is rather intimidating to those not in the know – but the whole point is that the callsign uniquely identifies every radio ham world wide, and at least in the places I’m aware of, also gives an indication of their license class. As a Foundation Licence holder, I’ll get an M3 call sign.
