Windscreens

Driving off for lunch the other day, I noticed an 8″ crack in my windscreen on the Rangie.

Bummer! No way that’ll be repaired, but at least the insurance will pay most of the cost of replacing the expanse of heated glass. Interestingly, I called the number given by my insurers, and the phone was answered by RAC Windscreen Service. Talk about outsourcing. Anyway, I get a shiny new windscreen next Tuesday. Let’s hope they don’t mess it up.

Update: they didn’t turn up. Rescheduled for next Friday, once they actually have a windscreen they can fit.

Update #2: they turned up second time around, and apart from not screwing all the panels under the windscreen in place, it seems OK.  Waiting for a chilly morning to make sure the heated screen is working.  And the panels have to come off soon to replace the foam filter in the air intake.  It’s not supposed to be a service item, but it does only seem to last about 60,000 miles.
